Loyalists were colonist based in America; they were patriotic and always looked forward to protecting what they considered to be of interest in their mother country as well as the colony. According to Hutson, James H, 12 loyalists were determined men, biased men as well as sensible men who seemed to reason well regarding the European world more than it really deserved. Loyalist having been different, they had their own views that they didn’t shy away from but indeed expressed them the best way they could. It was on the 22 nd of March 1765 that The Stamp Act managed to be passed by the British Government. This Stamp Act subjected the entire American colonist to be taxed on their essential printed papers that they were currently using Smith, Paul H, 23. Some of these papers were; the required licenses, their daily newspapers, passed legal documents, necessarily ship’s papers as well as their playing cards. Being a loyalist this would mean more protection from the British militaries towards us thus the need for us to join hands and support the Government on the implementation of the act. It was a golden opportunity to exercise our patriotism by defending this Act as we believed in the British Government. The first step would have been to try our best to convince other colonies to buy the idea and accept to do as the Act required. It would not have been an easy task but putting into consideration the fact that the tax was not very expensive this was an advantage to our plan. There was an urgent need to bring down the number of protests and the demonstrations they held as this would continue to make more people resistant towards the Act. As a loyalist, we had better chances to convince our fellow colonist compared to the government being the one to approach them.
