Plastics have been widely used across the globe as carry bags, packaging and toys. The impacts of plastics on the environment were given little consideration in the past. However, it has been recorded that plastics impact marine life, including coral reefs (UN, 2019). Due to runoff and random dumping of plastics into rivers or lakes, plastic can be found everywhere (Forbes, 2018). Fracking is not good for the planet because it pollutes soil, water, and air with toxic components, and it uses plastic as one of the main products (Forbes, 2018). How Plastic Impacts the Planet Marine litter is known to consist of 60-80% of plastics (UN, 2019). Floating plastic litter has been spotted in aquatic environments and within marine species, thereby indicating the extent of plastic pollution (UN, 2019). Plastic wastes negatively affect fauna in different ways. Wildlife is exposed to plastics through eating or getting entangled. All plastics are not recyclable, and this poses a massive threat to the environment. When these plastics get broken down, they result in smaller plastic fragments, which can enter the food chain, and therefore, the digestive tract of animals (Forbes, 2018). The burning of plastic wastes in open air leads to air pollution. When wastes containing nearly 12% of plastics are burnt, toxic gases such as dioxins, furans, mercury, and polychlorinated biphenyls are released, which impacts the health of humans and animals (Verma et al., 2016). Which is more Toxic, Plastic or Cotton? Cotton textiles are commonly used worldwide; nearly half of the fabrics are made of cotton. However, cotton production has severe environmental impacts (WWF, 2019). Agrochemicals, mainly pesticides, are used for cotton production, which also involves the consumption of huge amounts of water and land-use change of habitats into agricultural lands. It has been recorded that diversion of water and the pollution caused due to cotton production has deeply impacted the Aral Sea in Central Asia, the Indus Delta in Pakistan, and the Murray Darling River in Australia (WWF, 2019). Cotton production also reduces the quality of soil and causes soil erosion. Furthermore, the pesticides and fertilizers used during cotton production bio-accumulate and cause harm to the ecosystems. Although plastic bags are largely replaced with cotton-made bags, it can be understood that cotton production is also not eco-friendly. In fact, the impacts of cotton production may be more severe than those of plastics. Ways to Mitigate Plastic Pollution The unsustainable use and disposal of plastic causes plastic pollution. Clean up activities such as beach clean-up have been initiated, but it is hard to cope with the increasing amount of newly manufactured plastic (Prata et al, 2019). Certain measures can be implemented to reduce plastic pollution and its impacts on the environment and public health: Regulating the production and consumption of plastic Designing environment-friendly plastic Increasing the awareness and demand among the public with regards to recycled plastic Reducing the use and manufacturing of non-recyclable plastic Using renewable energy for plastic recycling Improving the collection of plastic wastes Increasing the responsibility of plastic manufacturers in terms of waste disposal Using bio-based and biodegradable plastics. Conclusion In summary, it can be understood that increasing the use of plastic and its unsustainable disposal has severe environmental and health impacts. However, cotton production may have more adverse effects on the environment than plastic. One of the best ways to mitigate plastic pollution is to start using biodegradable plastics and reducing the production of non-biodegradable ones.

I love EduBirdie, prof Winnie was my writer and working with her for the first time helping my assignment was a smooth and a fun experience. And I ordered again. she truly cares about what you need and she went above and beyond to make sure I had all the information required and she was consistently getting in touch with me. My paper was finalized well before the due date. She comes highly recommended and anyone would be lucky to have her as their writer. EXCELLENT service.

Literature

She's a good writer who is willing to do what you want. The only problem is that I had to return my paper multiple times to get what I want. She's patient and understanding and I liked that.
